Past Generations of Transportaton

One from my archives shows two past generations of streetcars that were on display last fall during the TTC Open House  at the Hillcrest yards. The one on the left still appears during special events while the one on the right was a familiar sight until just a few years ago. The newest streetcars are a lot longer and are articulated.

  2. The streetcar of the left looks like the ones in Chicago before they eliminated them from the streets. There is a conspiracy theory about the elimination of all streetcars from North America.

  3. That old one is more from my era although the ones in Montreal were mostly different design. Now, I am not sure when I saw my last streetcar because I haven't bene in downtown Toronto for quite some time, and I can't think of another place that has them.

  5. These are great. I love the one on the left. Just think of all the people it has hauled over the years.

  7. A great snapshot of transit history—amazing to see how far streetcars have come, from heritage charm to modern efficiency!

  8. I remember travelling on the newer tram, and your photo is doing my head in because I am sure we entered the left hand side of the tram but that doesn't make any sense at all. It didn't have a Presto card reader and the driver was not really interested in taking our fare. I like the lines of the older tram, which I think is similar to some US designed street cars.

  9. The one on the left reminds me of the street cars in New Orleans that I have ridden.

  10. Oh, WOW!!! The left one I got right here! A pressie from River, when we visited last year, from Adelaide. And the right one looks like the one Ingo gave me, from Bombardier.
Such a nice sight, thank you for sharing this, RedPat!
