A Fine Reuse
This is the interior of one of the old streetcar barns at the Wychwood Barns community centre and park. The barns were built as a streetcar maintenance facility in 1913 and have been converted into a multi-use space with theatres, artist studios, event spaces and more. This is barn 2 which is used as a space for a weekend farmers' market as well as various shows and even for wedding receptions. It is a great space with all of those skylights.
A magnificent space! It’s great that something new has been created out of the old building. Around here, the city tends to tear down everything old! This morning was +3°C

ReplyDeleteIt is good that such buildings are repurposed, and it will have been very well built, I should think.
ReplyDeleteWe have something similar. It still is a parking lot but on Thursdays some parking lots get blocked and instead you can sit there and enjoy beer from the crafts beer bar that started here over 10 years ago :-)
ReplyDeleteTurning a 1913 streetcar maintenance barn into a light-filled space for farmers' markets and weddings is such a great example of thoughtful adaptive reuse. Those original skylights must make it feel completely different from your average event venue, RedPat.
