Poutine is a French Canadian dish of French fries and fresh cheese curds covered with gravy or sauce and was first made in the province of Quebec in the 1950s. It can now be found across Canada and even some large franchises such as MacDonalds have it on their menu in some locations. Some specialty shops like this one on Bloor St also serve it with various meat toppings. I have to admit to never having tried it!

Sounds like something we Hoosiers would like! Developed by a cardiologist perhaps? LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy sign link is HERE
My Canadian friends told me ALL ABOUT poutine while we were wintering together in AZ. I must say, it wasn't something that I was craving. The first time my Canadian friend was down in the states and ordered fries, she asked for gravy and the people thought she was nuts! Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI've heard of it from various media, but never tasted it just ye.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it, either. I like my french fries the old English way, with salt and vinegar.
ReplyDeleteLove your photo, though.
K
What! You`re Canadian and never tried poutine? Next you will be telling us that you have never tried HP sauce;-)
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, just the thought of fries, cheese curd and gravy on one plate is enough to turn my stomach!I'm a purist - salt on my fries, thank you, nothing else!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this before! Not sure about the fresh cheese curds. I think I would like just melted cheese without being curds! Interesting how the sign almost looks like a tartan! (I double-checked in case it may have been shadows!)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm - never tried it - and admit - sounds a bit dicey for my taste. But maybe you need to give us a photo tour one of these days :-).
ReplyDeleteTalk about a heart-attack on a plate! Yikes. Doesn't even sound good to me, though. I like French fries with some ketchup. I'm a simple man, as you can probably tell! :-)
ReplyDeleteGravy and chips is popular here, also cheesy chips, but not all 3 together!
ReplyDeleteWell I have to admit that it doesn't sound very appetizing to me at all. Given the calorie and cholesterol count in it, that would be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI like gravy on fries, I like them plain with ketchup, and I like them with chile and cheese (a New Mexico version). The cheese curds sounds a bit different.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going to try it? ;-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting dish which might spread far from it's origin. Need to try some for the sake of science.
ReplyDeleteI've never had poutine either. I just don't like gravy. :S
ReplyDeleteThis sign is funny though. So many Canadian cliches rolled into one.
Sounds like a heart attack on a plate! I've never tried, but I think I'd like it.
ReplyDeleteI have never had it, much less ever heard of it, and it will stay that way!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried it either. I never even liked gravy on my fries. It is vinegar and lots of salt for me.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteHmm not something that appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteI've tried it! I've had a few off my husband's plate a long. long time ago. The fries are soggy. :))
ReplyDeleteHmmm, it doesn't sound appealing to me, Pat. I,d give it a try though - maybe when I'm next in Canada :-)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like something I'd avoid!
ReplyDeleteIt does actually sound kind of yummy Pat, but that combination just can't possibly be good for you haha!
