Space-Age Bench

I love this woebegone bench that is in a small park near Casa Loma right beside a playground and so it is always having sand sprinkled about it since the kids seem to like it too! Unlike any other bench I've seen in the city, one can only wonder how it came to be here. I can find no info on it at all but its space-age look suggests that it has been here since the 60s or 70s.

  1. It does look 60s or 70s to me. Are the seats comfortable?

  2. I like its style, the curvilinear shape. ;-)

  3. Yes indeed, it is either very retro or a left over from the 70's. It does have a certain charm.

  4. Looks oh so very much like cast stone from the 60s or 70s. Looks well used, and obviously puts up with the use and abuse.

  5. Those benches were made so you can sit and talk while looking at the person next to you and very 60s or 70s. I like that it is made of stone.

  8. Nice shot Red Pat, not too sure about comfort though!

  9. I am going to think of it as sculpture. It is far too uncomfortable-looking for a bench.

  10. I echo others- it does looks uncomfortable but is a good piece of art.

  11. I think it's what's called a 'love seat' Pat, so a couple can sit and face each other, very 60's indeed. Wonderful find!

  12. It is very unusual, but I like it! The only thing that would improve it (IMO) is if they painted a nice bright color - like red or yellow. :)

  13. I've seen that style of bench before but not one with such a wavy design...almost marine in character. The most important thing is that people seem to find it comfortable or playful - especially the kids!
