Wood Island Lighthouse
I thought that I couldn't end my pics of PEI without showing at least one of the lighthouses from the island so here is the Wood Island Lighthouse which is the second oldest lighthouse on PEI. It was founded on the southernmost tip of the island in 1876 and was manned by a keeper (who would live in the lower addition) until 1989 when it was finally automated. This is also the location of the dock where you can catch a ferry to Nova Scotia, one of other Maritime provinces. PEI (Prince Edward Island) is a beautiful place and well worth a visit!
What is it about a lighthouse that is so appealing? Because they do appeal. It's hard not to like a shot like this!
ReplyDeleteA classic! Love the whitewashed exterior. :)
ReplyDeleteJust love light houses, I agree with Paul, they are just so appealing. Love that this is obviously well cared for, despite being automated.
ReplyDeleteTalk about an icon! Wow. It's beautiful in terms of shape and color...Were you able go get inside for a look around? Looks like it would be a lonely place to live, though.

Nice. I just did an (incomplete) lighthouse tour of the Bruce Peninsula, but many of them were inaccessible.

ReplyDeleteThis lighthouse is simply gorgeous. I've enjoyed your series on PEI. Such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteTalk about some quite time. Look at that blue sky.
ReplyDeleteI really dont know how a wooden light tower house would last withstanding the erosive power of the sea salt.
ReplyDeleteClassic picture of a beautiful building, would love to visit one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little lighthouse and photo too!
ReplyDeleteThis lighthouse has a lot of character Pat..Sometimes I think it would be really nice to live in a lighthouse like this, just to get some peace and quiet for a while!
ReplyDeleteNice example of one of your lighthouses Red Pat.....is that what you call Clapperboard?
