Deco Apartment
This wonderful Art Deco apartment building, "The Fleetwood", can be found on St Clair Ave just west of Yonge St, Toronto's main street. It was designed by architect Henry Chowan and built in 1939 and has been given heritage protection. Apparently the interior of the apartments are very deco and many have working fireplaces! Love it!
A great example of Art Deco!
ReplyDeleteI love this building! It reminds me of Florin Court in London. That's the building pictured in Poirot episodes to represent the place he lived. On my last trip to London, I went in search of that building so I could take some photos and let me tell you, it isn't easy to find. When I did find it, wouldn't you know, the entire front was covered in scaffolding. Apparently they were doing a little restoration so my idea for photos was shot down. Still, it was fun to search it out. Anyway, that building looks a lot like this one.
ReplyDeleteThe Fleetwood is fabulous Sharon, I can just imagine what the inside would look like, I think Art Deco has to be one of my favourite architectural styles, so elegant.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Love this architecture.
ReplyDeleteNot something we see much anymore. Very nice. Thanks for showing it. Now go inside and knock on some doors. We want to see the living quarters.
ReplyDeleteThe unusual style makes it a superb subject for your shot. It is a great eye-catching building. I'm glad it's protected. I'd like the see one of the rooms.
ReplyDeletePerfect name for the place!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Art Deco designs. Lovely fine!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing looking place, fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love early century architecture They got away from the nice lines in the 50's and have never gone back.
ReplyDeleteVery nice architecture, I like the sort of roundness!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful (though I would need a balcony, that would destroy the perfection of the design.)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful building! It really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteReally different from the apartment next door.
ReplyDeleteGood for restoration, is a large building.
ReplyDeleteGood weekend, Pat;)
Much more attractive than the more modern one to the right of it.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the interiors. Are these rentals?
ReplyDeleteThis looks fabulous. You might need to leave the loft.
