On Sunday morning, Aug 17, parts of Bloor St and Yonge St were closed for the first "Open Streets TO" (TO is one of Toronto's nicknames). The streets were open for walking and biking with a few activities at certain areas but mainly for just getting out and moving. This pic was taken on Bloor St at Avenue Rd with the 'Crystal' addition on the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) visible on the right, just down the street from yesterday's shot of Tiffany's. This Sunday, Aug 31, the streets will be closed again for the second Open Streets experience.

Looks like a huge hit!
ReplyDeleteit is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteTHAT girl is one strange building. Everytime I see it, I see something I missed before. It must be quite an attraction.
ReplyDeletehow interesting! i bet drivers having to go around are not too pleased. :)
ReplyDeleteFascinating idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very nice area to walk around.
ReplyDeleteI can tell that people really take advantage of this event!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. We have that here as well.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that went down a storm, at least for pedestrians and cyclists!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great thought. I hope the idea catches on in other cities. Though in Naples the main drag is often closed for fairs, parades and special events, and the merchants are getting a bit twitchy about it.
ReplyDeleteLove the cityscape. We used to have these but they seem to have stopped. I loved being able to walk around with no car noise! Then again, we have a lot of pedestrian zones in cities and Paris is becoming increasingly car unfriendly.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I know a few cities in Florida that have closed off sections of the downtown area to cars. Wish we could do more of that. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteHave you or others had a problem getting notification of comments? I'm finding that quite often people make comments on one of my blogs and I never hear about it unless I check the blog or sometimes the comment shows up a week late.
Excellent shot, RedPat. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the Crystal, but it's what's inside the museum that counts.
ReplyDeleteI love events like this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to close streets to vehicles. You found the perfect opportunity for showing your street photography skills.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of closing the streets down occasionally. Nice shot of the event!
ReplyDeleteNice wide street Pat, bit like my St. Georges Terrace. Looks like it's a popular move, everyone out and about!
ReplyDeleteA picture of life in the city!!
ReplyDeleteGreat street scene!
