This mural was done this autumn on the side of a house which borders Alexandra Park and which was a constant target for taggers. The city commissioned the artists Elicser (whose work I have shown many times) and Troy Lovegates (aka Other) to paint a piece and solve that problem but as you can see some of the taggers have been at the mural, a major no-no in the street art community.

Dang those taggers! I love the colours - bright and cheerful. Lots to see in this mural.
ReplyDeleteLOTS going on here!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind a little abstract impressionism or even a little cubism.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these taggers are known to the artists (they are, after all, leaving a calling card, so to speak!)
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderful Pat!
ReplyDeletethe most interesting is the face of a man
ReplyDeleteTaggers are a plague! Nevertheless the mural is still great.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite a production! We just don't anything like this in Ocala - well, there's one city mural downtown but that's about it. It's too bad some nasties can't leave well enough alone!
ReplyDeleteGreat mural, it really brightens up the wall.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like there are some taggers around who do not know the rules! That really is too bad.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! Troy Lovegates has painted murals in Rochester, NY. Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteWack needs to be whacked but good!
ReplyDeleteHate those taggers! Great mural.
ReplyDeletedang! colorful!
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of mural - LOTS of color!
ReplyDeleteI love street art but hate those taggers that clearly haven't got the talent to do anything else! I love visiting the graffiti tunnel in London where the street artists keep going over the taggers.
ReplyDeleteBill Murray? Very nice, and at least respected to some extent by the vandals (who must aspire to such themselves, eh?)

I'm not sure what connects all these people but I love the colours and expressions!
ReplyDeleteLove the creative flow on this art. Beautiful capture!
ReplyDeleteshame about the taggers
ReplyDeleteThat is a fine looking mural, but it is terrible that taggers have defaced it.
ReplyDeleteQuite a visual. Hopefully it stops the taggers.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! Some people have no respect though.
ReplyDeleteWow, that can keep your eyes busy for awhile.
ReplyDeleteEven though this painting has some appeal, it is sad that people in Toronto have to paint murals on the side of buildings in an attempt to deter taggers. It is even sadder that the taggers won't leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful mural !!
ReplyDeleteI like the psychedelic feel to the composition. Hate the tagging. Thanks, Pat, for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
