There are actually a couple of signs on this building on Queen St West. It looks as if the H J Lavelle wine company also sold Coca Cola and they had painted their sign over a previous one that is possibly for a printing company - a bit is visible towards the left. The Lavelle company went out of business in 1917 so the sign is quite an old one! And of course we have the CN Tower photobombing the pic on the right.

Wonderful sign. Love it. We still have some left in DC.
ReplyDeleteOld buildings often tell interesting stories.
ReplyDelete(and how many cables !)
i wonder why they don't do signs like this any more? love the Coke. we see them often in VA. ( :

ReplyDeleteA wall that should be preserved...
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorite things, Ghost signs and Photobombs! Great capture of both, truly.
ReplyDeletenice find.
ReplyDeletea shame the graffiti idiots painted on top of it
ReplyDeleteI love the ghost sign. It's fun to find these in places. I heard a story on the news yesterday about a school in Oklahoma that was going to replace all of it's black boards with white boards. When the they took the old blackboards down, they found other even older blackboards underneath with all kinds of lessons on them that were dated 1917. It was like a little time capsule.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those rare photos where cables add so much! Great composition. Well done!
ReplyDeleteSoon photographs like this will be the only record these kinds of murals ever existed.
ReplyDeleteLove how the top of the tower sneaks into shot!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the photobombing CN Tower too. All the technology we have and there are still MILLIONS of wires everywhere.

Fabulous picture in so many ways. Love that there are two ghost signs (and a tad envious, must admit). And that iconic photo bomb. The old and the new. ... Love it.
ReplyDeleteThe sign is neat, neat, neat! The wires are not, not, not! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteLovely picture, so much going on with old, new and that lovely jumble of wires...
ReplyDeleteApparently this building has had many tenants. Like this style of advertising!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame about the tagging, but the old signs are neat.
ReplyDeleteNice ghost sign. Don't see them around here, pity.
