A Gatehouse

This window belongs to what had been a gatehouse to a large estate, Uplands, off Bayview Ave. It is now a private home and the estate itself has been divided into smaller lots. The Tudor style gatehouse was built in 1921 and designed by Eden Smith and now has heritage designation. Just as I took this pic a bus passed behind me which you can see in the reflection!

  1. This makes me think of Traitor’s Gate at the Tower of London with a lovely holiday wreath on it. The refection is interesting. I am wondering if the gate has glass in the center to allow the reflection or if that part of the home back there.

  5. I like even more the symmetry than the reflections...

  6. I like the way they've put a window in the place of the opening. Very clever repurposing. This place well deserving of heritage status.

  10. Nicely framed shot. The place looks very good for being so old!

  14. I think I could live in the gatehouse quite comfortably. :-)

  15. It would be amazing to live in that former gatehouse -- so interesting it has survived as a home while the estate has been divided up. Have you ever explained heritage designation? Does it mean people can live in the home, but can't change anything? Inside and out?
