Let There Be Light

This is the lantern that you could see on the fence in yesterday's post. I imagine it originally was lit by gas but it seems to only be decorative these days although I haven't been by in the dark to be sure!

  1. I'm surprised it hasn't been adapted to electric light Pat :) I'm kind of glad it hasn't though!

  2. Oh my, I'm closing my eyes and imaging it lit with flickering light. It must have been stunning to see. Like something out of a Sherlock Holmes movie.

  3. That's pretty impressive. 18th century design? 19th century?

  7. I don't see anything that could be an electric light. And what is that pink residue on the top?

  8. A beautiful detail. I love the light from gas lamps, but I understand why they're not used so much anymore.
