Yet another of the WWI posters from the Vet's Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre this one really puts across the message that more soldiers are needed to help in the fight. There is a little damage on this one but considering it is from 1914 it is in good shape.

It's amazing to have this little slice of history. That was such an awful war. All wars are awful but, there is something particularly brutal about the first world war.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good one. B
ReplyDeleteI somehow think this same notice if it was put up today wouldn't get the same eager to fight response it got then Pat. Really fascinating to read the words, so much pressure put on young men then!
ReplyDeleteNot bad for a century-old poster!
ReplyDeleteIt still is in pretty good shape, a century later.
ReplyDeleteI don't see anything about the possibility of those "brave Soldiers" being blown to bits or gassed to idiocy or lying in puddles of blood in the foxholes.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of poster fascinates me. Sometimes we have no choice but to fight, but it's not a great and noble cause. It's death and dismemberment and in the end it's all in vain and nobody gives a damn. The Queen and the King and the nobles and the others who inhabit places of power know nothing of this for they sit in peace, sipping tea and eating crumpets, far from the sounds of the battlefield.
OK, I'll quit now.
Very interesting, I really enjoyed your catchy title!
ReplyDeletestill so sad...
ReplyDeleteIt still sends shudders down my spine. Just like the other ones you've shown.
ReplyDeleteThe message is clear what's on there!
ReplyDeleteNice that these posters have been preserved!
ReplyDeleteinteresting poster
ReplyDeleteyou easily span decades with your posts! Modern are and history
ReplyDeleteA nice one but the one with the pointing finger is still more famous I think.
ReplyDeletewe all need a wake up call
ReplyDeleteHeart-rending.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look its age.
ReplyDeleteMy SIGNS, SIGNS
Strong words indeed, who could have predicted the horrors of WW1 warfare...
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that someone had the hindsight to preserve these posters.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing part of history!
ReplyDeleteWow, that sign sure has some age on it! That's even before my time.
ReplyDeleteThat sign certainly does not mince words! It is in excellent condition for being over a hundred years old.
ReplyDeleteThat sign catches the spirit of the times around WW II.
ReplyDeleteActually it's amazing it's in such good condition.
ReplyDeleteGreat condition!
