"Wake Up England"

Yet another of the WWI posters from the Vet's Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre this one really puts across the message that more soldiers are needed to help in the fight. There is a little damage on this one but considering it is from 1914 it is in good shape.

    It's amazing to have this little slice of history. That was such an awful war. All wars are awful but, there is something particularly brutal about the first world war.

    I somehow think this same notice if it was put up today wouldn't get the same eager to fight response it got then Pat. Really fascinating to read the words, so much pressure put on young men then!

    I don't see anything about the possibility of those "brave Soldiers" being blown to bits or gassed to idiocy or lying in puddles of blood in the foxholes.

    This kind of poster fascinates me. Sometimes we have no choice but to fight, but it's not a great and noble cause. It's death and dismemberment and in the end it's all in vain and nobody gives a damn. The Queen and the King and the nobles and the others who inhabit places of power know nothing of this for they sit in peace, sipping tea and eating crumpets, far from the sounds of the battlefield.
