Old Mill Bridge
I showed you the Old Mill Bridge as depicted in a mural a couple of weeks ago (HERE) so thought I should venture down to the banks of the Humber River to get a pic of the real bridge. The river is quite low now since we are badly in need of rain so I was able to get right down into the weeds along the shore. The bridge was built in 1916 and survived Hurricane Hazel in 1954 which washed out whole streets of homes while the people slept killing more than 80. There are no homes along the river's edge these days.
good and sturdy.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really beautiful bridge!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a beautiful bridge.
ReplyDeleteHello, it is a beautiful bridge, love the setting too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day and the week ahead!
That is a lovely old bridge. It has style and elegance, something often lacking in modern bridges.
ReplyDeletebuilt when things were built to last
ReplyDeleteA super shot of a splendiforous bridge! I've read hurricanes do the most damage by sending water rampaging across the land.
ReplyDeleteVery handsome bridge; Very sad history
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Meanwhile we are awash.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely - reminds me of bridges in the north of England and Scotland.
ReplyDeleteReally a beautiful bridge, Pat!
ReplyDeleteThey knew how to build a sturdy bridge in 1916 Pat! Such a tragedy the floods, I imagine that happened in many places around the world where homes are built to close to rivers, actually it still happens today doesn't it. That's why I love living by the ocean but not RIGHT BY the ocean!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful old bridge built to last.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! I love Pat bridges. I have a label dedicated to them 😉 You are in G + ??
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, that was quite a lot of lives lost, but it sure looks like it could stand tall through any more bad times! A beautiful style to it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks terrific. Kind of like the bridges in Avignon.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beauty. We just do not see lovely old bridges like this down here in the states. 1916...and survived Hazel...that is quite an accomplishment and a testament to the construction workers. genie
ReplyDeleteNice bridge! I have a vague memory of Hurricane Hazel. It took down a power line in front of our house.
