Courthouse Square

When we come to the end of yesterday's walkway we find ourselves at the entrance to Courthouse Square which is a small park behind the building which had housed the York County Court House in the 1800s. I think it now houses a restaurant. This little square is reported to have been the site of the last public hanging in Toronto back in the late 1800s but now has a fountain, sculpture, a stage, and a lovely seating area which I will show you tomorrow.

  5. The present day square has a much greater purpose today than in the past. It is lovely and looks very serene and inviting.

  6. Thankfully it looks much more welcoming now than a site for the gallows.
