Towering Over
This has become a common sight here where older low rise commercial buildings are being overshadowed by tall buildings either beside them or behind them as in this pic taken on Dundas St behind our city hall. One wonders how long these small buildings will survive without being taken over by yet another tower.
...unlike the highrise, the corner has character!
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast!
ReplyDeleteI find this amusing and sad at the same time. Doubtless, there are some advantages to these tall buildings that house thousands but I have questions as to their long term viability for the city and the environment. I really prefer the "older low rise commercial buildings" for my shopping and because they help give a city "character".
ReplyDeleteIt is only a matter of time before the little guy is gone.
ReplyDeleteWow, a compromise giving raise to an interesting character around the city
ReplyDeleteI see a five story parking garage in that corners' future.
ReplyDeleteThe towers completely lack the character of the older buildings.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a great angle for your picture and really gets the point across. Poor little building -- I feel kind of sorry for it. And I bet it won't be there long.
ReplyDeleteI always like to see these small buildings hanging on to life!
ReplyDeleteThere must be some rules about how close high-rise can stand to each other without spoiling each others daylight catch.
ReplyDeleteI hope these low rise old buildings never disappear!
ReplyDeleteYup. Happens all over the Northeast. I was talking with a college classmate about an H.H.Richardson building in Pittsburgh and after the call I googled it and discovered that today it is dwarfed by similar glass towers,
ReplyDeleteI like thinking of these as little gems in the big world!
