Vintage Island Home

This home on Ward's Island looks as if it has had very little done to it on the exterior over the years. There are several elderly people who have lived their whole lives on the Island and have no intention to leave. It is a complicated system to buy a home there - the land belongs to an Island trust and the homes can only be purchased through the trust. The waiting list to buy a home sits at its maximum which is 500 and it can be years before even one comes up for sale. The people at the bottom of that list will probably be elderly before their name comes up!

  1. That is a complicated way to buy a property in this place. It seems like living here full time would pose some challenges especially for the elderly.

  2. Wow, that is interesting, and I imagine once you're lucky enough to purchase you'd rather not leave.

  3. Put your name on the list of home buyers and perhaps your descendants might have an opportunity to invest a fortune in Ward Island real estate. Looks like a modest, but comfortable house.

  4. Hello,

It must be a lovely place to live if there is a waiting list. It is a cute cottage. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week ahead!

  6. A lovely cottage. I don't think I'd want to be on a list that can last a lifetime.

  7. This is all so interesting! There was a neighborhood that we visited on Martha's vineyard that was something like this -- I don't remember the details, but we wee told that purchase was through a trust and seldom came up. LOL, I will have to look back on my own blog to see if I remember right! Our visit was a while ago.

  8. I can definitely see the appeal of living on the island Pat, but that's a long time to wait!

  9. Wow! I wonder if an owner can will their home to someone! Would be exciting to finally get that call though if you're on the waiting list!

  10. The place has some shabby chic charm, I suppose, but I can't see waiting most of a lifetime for the chance to buy it. On to the next!
