Narrow Infill

This long row of townhouses shows a fairly common style of infill housing that has popped up all over the city. After purchasing a long site either from an old factory or a few homes, the developers build these groups of 3 or 4 story townhouses that are usually only about 14 ft wide. The result is a space that has a large amount of its square footage occupied by stairs. I've known a few people who have bought these and then sold them within a couple of years. There is often a roof deck but there are a lot of stairs involved to get up there.

  1. I think I'd have to pass on these. That would be way too many stairs for me. Of course, residents might be able to give up the gym membership.

  4. Hello,

They look nice, the steps do not sound good for a senior.
Like me, lol. Wishing you a happy day and weekend!

  5. They do look nice but the stairs would be a negative. I don't even like bath tubs anymore. We have an electric shower and I love it.

  6. Looks like housing for young folks living in the city for a few years before going somewhere else. I am sure the developers find these infill buildings profitable.

  7. RedPat you make me feel good that I live in house rather than a condo.

  9. I'd ask the seller, "Where's the elevator???"

  10. My niece lives in a house with an upstairs. Under the staircase is a small bathroom and a storage closet so that space is put to good use. But four floors, no way!
    Have a great weekend!

  11. Our last home was two stories. Did I ever get a lot of exercise when we were moving out!
I can't imagine a 14 ft. wide floor shared with stairs except for two words: developer greed. It doesn't make practical sense.

  15. Yes, the stairs.
I understand we need housing, but it's for young legs.
