More Yorkville Beauties

I love to wander around the Yorkville neighbourhood and remember back to when it was the gathering place for hippies and people like Joni Mitchell played in the coffee houses. In those days these houses did not look so posh and there was many a great party taking place most nights. Today the whole area is a heritage conservation area and the homes have been restored and wonderfully maintained and cost millions of dollars to buy. These two are great beauties. The one on the left was built in 1880 but I could find no info for the one on the right.

  1. They are both very beautiful....and expensive.
I had dinner last night with my friend from Chicago who works in Toronto for Porter Airlines. I hadn't seen him in 3 years. I was fascinated by his stories of how that small airline survived two years of shut down. They had to make a lot of very hard decisions but they made it through.

  3. 1880? For it's age it is in fantastic shape.

  4. Houses seem to go through a strange life-cycle, often suddenly becoming fashionable after years of neglect. A house I lived in when I was a student in London has had a similar resurrection. Pity the same thing can't happen to people; it breaks my heart to see Joni these days.

  5. These are beautiful brick Victorian houses. They are charming. Neighborhoods do go through transformations, and for those who understand the process there are fortunes to be made.

  6. Interesting how different neighbourhoods go up and down in the fashionable stakes; same here.

  7. In West Philadelphia was another outpost of such culture in Old Victorian houses. Powelton village. Happy memories

  9. Parties are over. Cost too much. Got mortgages to pay. :-)

  10. These homes are strikingly beautiful. It would be a grand place to wander. I'm always pleased when I see older homes renovated and brought back. So much more charm than new buildings.

Thanks for stopping by The Marmelade Gypsy the other day! Have a lovely weekend.

  12. I remember walking through Yorkville several times in the late 60s, maybe 67 or even 68. The streets were crowded with people wandering through.
