In a pond quite full of male Mallard Ducks there was this one unusual duck. It was a lot larger than the rest of the ducks. I wonder if it is some kind of cross with a domestic one. Any ideas?

I think you are right about this duck being a cross breed. Good find for your camera.
ReplyDeleteDo you know a bird identification program? It recognizes bird sounds and birds from a photo. We have a program like Merlin. Great program to use. It records the sounds of birds and the program informs which birds are vocal. In the same way, it recognizes the birds in the photo. This bird in the picture looks like a duck. This program is here for free.
ReplyDeleteYes, I would say it is a Mallard cross breed or hybrid.
ReplyDeleteI have seen some similar here too.

ReplyDeleteIt has coloring similar to a muscovy duck but I'm not sure that's what it is. He's a handsome fellow.
ReplyDeleteHello :=)
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a hybrid but a very attractive duck.
