Christmas Window at The Bay

I went down to the main Bay store today to see the animated Christmas windows. This one shows Santa's helpers getting the sleigh and the reindeers ready for his big trip. All the helpers are wearing clothing made from Hudson's Bay point blanket patterns. These blankets were first made in the 18th century and used to trade to First Nations people for beaver pelts. It is a pattern of coloured stripes still used today on many items by The Bay. We are getting a sprinkle of snow today - only 1 cm.

  2. That's very beautiful, and the helpers clothes are very gracious too.

  3. I am gathering that all these are store-dummies, yes? We have store windows decorated with Christmas themes but I have not done a post on them this year. I will see what I can rustle up for Christmas Day.

It is a fine day here today, and should reach about 24C. We'll keep you warm!!

  4. Julie - They are all small little figurines many of which move about in the window or their arms move as they perform a Christmas task. Glad to know it is warm somewhere.

  6. What a beautiful display. Don't think I would want to be the one who takes it down though.

  7. I don't see these animated windows around here. Too bad, they are so much fun.

  8. Yes, I noticed that every window had a point blanket prominently displayed! I love the old-timey feel of these windows.

  9. I was last in Toronto in December 2005, when I remember the Bay looking very Christmassy. It was all Narnia-fied (if that's a word) because the movie had just come out.

  10. Beautiful! I was in New York City before Christmas and the stores there do the same thing.
