Another piece from the halls of the Macdonald block. This mosaic of blue ceramic, unglazed terra cotta, and Egyptian paste (a type of clay with high sodium content which 'self-glazes' and needs no glaze applied to it) was done by Canadian artist Merton Chambers and was done in an abstract style to suggest organic forms floating in water. It screams 1968 to me - the age of Aquarius! Love those colours.
I have noticed that many bloggers including me have lost their followers again. Hope we don't start losing posts and comments too.
It's the first time I see different materials in a mosaic piece!

This is an interesting piece, I see a figure on the left, I like that terra cotta, it gives it a twist.

ReplyDeleteJust lovely and your comment took me back immediately to 1968...we were living in Illinois...and I remember the song; in fact, I was playing it the other day on the piano!
ReplyDeleteThose were difficult times, though, if you recall the violence at the Democratic Convention in Chicago when Mayor Daley ordered the police to shoot demonstrators!
This does seem a bit like what I remember of the Age-of-Aquarius stuff. :) But do I see Grover of Sesame Street on the left? Maybe that's a blue Big Bird almost upside down on the right? Hmmm. Maybe I need to take a long, log nap. (I hope I haven't offended any one!)
