Demolition
There is so much construction of condominiums going on in downtown Toronto that this has become a very common sight. I'm always fascinated to see the remainders of stairs, wallpapers, & etc as the old comes down to be replaced by new although in this case it seems that some of the old structure is being retained as part of the new facade. Progress?
It's a shame to lose historical buildings. It's great when they keep some of the old intact.
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to see things that are normally obscured from sight. Tearing down walls is a very efficient way to provide this insight!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the inside of old buildings. I seen the inside of the theatre near to me once when they were tearing it down. It was really spectacular
ReplyDeleteIt is an endless and perhaps fruitless debate regarding 'progress'. As much as I enjoy seeing the inside construction bits of these buildings it is always tinged with sadness.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder if it is progress, in my opinion depends on what was destroyed. I agree, ghost stairs are truly fascinating.

ReplyDeleteAlthough it is sad to see the old buildings go, it makes for some interesting sites. It makes you wonder how many memories were made in those old building. Babies first steps, etc.

I am impressed at how healthy the Canadian economy seems to be. Every fourth person down here in Florida is from above the border.
ReplyDeleteI just read in the paper that the bidding wars have heated up on downtown Toronto condos. In Pickering near my home a plaza was demolished for condos.

ReplyDeleteSame situation here Pat, old warehouses and such being turned into apartments, love the shadow of the old staircase.

ReplyDeleteIs this near Bloor and Bathurst? I think there is too much development in the city. How will the city meet with the demands of all those new residents when it hardly has the infrastructure for those it already has? Something to think about anyway! :)
