Ai Weiwei has had a large presence in Toronto this summer and fall with his Zodiac heads installed at City Hall for the summer and his show at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) through the same time period. For our Nuit Blanche at the beginning of October, his large piece called "Forever Bicycles, 2013" was installed in the square at City Hall and will remaon until Oct 27. It is a 3-D structure consisting of 3,144 bicycles arranged in a wonderful pattern to create an "abstract sculpture representing the rapidly changing environment in China and around the globe". It's very cool to see the patterns created. This is just a small section. I'll be showing more Weiwei this week.
The November 1 theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is "Heights."

Amazing! And I love the shadow the installation creates too.
Oh Wow - love all the shadows it creates.
An amazing work of art. The bikes look to all be the same and my do they give the viewer lots of patterns at which to gaze. Fascinating. genie
Wow!
That is a lot of bicycles! Seems like it should be a permanent structure to enjoy and communicate the theme.
