Runnymede

This is a close-up of the Runnymede sign which was located in the centre above the stage in yesterday's shot of the old Runnymede Theatre/Chapters Bookstore. You can see some of the detail work and the beautiful restoration that was done before the bookstore opened. There are features like this all over the interior of the space!

  3. Beautiful work. The décor is really more suited to a bookstore than a drug store.

  4. I hope the new owners take care of these theatre left overs.

  5. I'm imagining those details are going to be destroyed too... drug stores tend to take their decorating details from corporate headquarters, after all.

    This is a beautiful detail.

  6. I definitely like that the "theatrical side" of this building has been preserved, even if it has another use now.

  7. When something like this is gone, it's gone, so it is a good thing the it was renovated to reveal its original splendor!

  10. I love it. It is my favourite bookstore and I'm sad it is going to become a Shoppers Drugmart in March :(

  11. That's so lovely!

Now Runnymede rang a bell and so I had to look it up... It goes way back to Magna Carta days...: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runnymede

  12. Fine looking sign. The name commemorates the signing of the Magna Carta by King John.

  16. I'll be seriously upset if they do anything to harm the architecture of this building Pat.. Maybe it'll be a very tasteful drugstore :)

  17. You need to catalog all of these features in case some idiots decide to "modernize" the building when it becomes a drugstore.
