Another Yorkville Beauty
This home is just a couple of doors down from yesterday's house and it too has a heritage designation. Built in 1878, it has wonderful wooden details and I particularly like the turned columns on the porch - they are so elegant. In the 60s, Yorkville was hippie central in Toronto and many (if not most) of the homes were occupied by young people enjoying the times. Now the neighbourhood homes have been nearly all been restored to their original beauty and it is a quite expensive area.

ReplyDeleteYou have summed up the history of many urban neighborhoods, from starving artist colony to expensive-chic. This brick home is a classic style found in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

ReplyDeleteDon't have any hate for hippies (I'm from eugene Oregon after all, ) but I'm glad they left enough so that this beautiful home could be restored to its original elegance.
ReplyDeleteThe most similar houses in greater Hartford are usually wooden, though some are made from red brick.

ReplyDeleteI admire homes like this one. It's one of Toronto's many treasures. I wasn't a hippie but I did hang out in Yorkville in the 60's. I used to go to watch and listen to the music performers of the day.
