Last Saturday was proclaimed Johnny Bower Day in Toronto and this is one of the street signs that were unveiled along the street where he lived throughout his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bower was part of 4 Stanley Cup winning teams from 1962 to 64 and in 1967 and was one of the most popular players of all time and continues to be to this day, now in his late 80s. I chose this particular sign because his jersey number was 1! As an aside, I grew up nearby and as kids we would often go and knock on his door and he was always thrilled to greet us!

I'm not a follower of hockey so have never heard of Mr. Bower. But from your description he sounds like a nice person. And his accomplishments should be recognized as they are here!
I definitely remember Johnny Bower playing. It's getting hard for anyone to be before my time. Good to hear of Johnny Bower Day and the street signs with his name on them. K
