A Hockey Great
Last Saturday was proclaimed Johnny Bower Day in Toronto and this is one of the street signs that were unveiled along the street where he lived throughout his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bower was part of 4 Stanley Cup winning teams from 1962 to 64 and in 1967 and was one of the most popular players of all time and continues to be to this day, now in his late 80s. I chose this particular sign because his jersey number was 1! As an aside, I grew up nearby and as kids we would often go and knock on his door and he was always thrilled to greet us!

I am glad he is still alive.
What a wonderful memory to have of your childhood!
Fond memories and a wonderfully appropriate photo. My memory is of the Maple Leafs beating my Chicago Blackhawks.
how great that he was so down-to-earth. :)
The best part of this post is your story RedPat! :)
I'm not a follower of hockey so have never heard of Mr. Bower. But from your description he sounds like a nice person. And his accomplishments should be recognized as they are here!
It's a great tribute and it's good hear how friendly he is.
That's cool! Instead of hiding behind walls, he made himself available.
Nice tribute, and he will be remembered.
We are going to Madrid a few days to see Ruben. I'll come back;)
Have a good weekend.
It's great that he is still around to see how just much he is appreciated!
Being greeted with a smile by a star. Isn't that simply wonderful?!
an amazing goalie, remember watching him when I was young and there were just 6 teams in the NHL
A nice tribute to him.
In another fifty years, Leafs fans are still going to be thinking, "this is our year, gotta happen this year..."
Cool!
He's a true hockey great.
I grew up as a Boston Bruins fan. Bower was before my time (and these days it sometimes doesn't feel like anyone was before my time!).
I definitely remember Johnny Bower playing. It's getting hard for anyone to be before my time.
Good to hear of Johnny Bower Day and the street signs with his name on them.

How awesome that not only was he a good hockey player but also a nice guy!
