Concrete Details

Just a quick shot of one small section of the Medical Science Building at U of Toronto which was the location of yesterday's "Squares" sculpture. The facade of the whole building is covered in wonderful 3-dimensional concrete patterns that vary throughout the structure. It is a super example of Brutalist design that is friendly to the eye and really works well unlike some that are just brutal!

  5. wow! i'm guessing you don't get a lot of mold and moss growing there - that would be a lot of power-washing involved! :)

  6. Hmm . . . brutalist architecture for a medical science building. Not the kind of combination I instinctively would have looked for. :-)

  7. I can now see how yesterday's work with the squares sort of blends right in with the building. Interesting.

  10. Wow! Simply amazing. I would love to see this in person. This might even be an example of brutalism that I like. That would be a first!
