Davenport Road

I love these signs that the Historical Board installs around town since they give so much information that you would otherwise spend a lot of time searching for. This one found at Davenport Rd & Bathurst St gives a bit of the history of Davenport Rd which is one of the oldest roads in the city and was a trail used by First Nation people for many years before Toronto was founded.

  4. That is certainly an interesting bit of history. Reading it I can't even imagine the hardships people of that era had to endure in order to survive in the area.

  7. A pretty plaque. I remember growing up asking my mother how long it would take to see every historical plaque in the country. She said more time than people get in a lifetime, and I expect she was right!

  8. I think it is a good idea to preserve the history of the Native Americans, even though they get no credit for the name of the road.

  11. I agree that such signs are a great asset to a city. How else will people know what transpired at any given place or crossroads?

  13. There are historical markers across our state. My friend always says, "Something happened here once, and then everyone left." This sums up most of them.

  14. A great way to learn what or who came before you. I always take a photo of the info because is easier than trying to remember it. Nice post!
