Demolition?
I'm still back on the demolition site of the Mirvish family property which included Honest Ed's. Apparently several of the older Victorian buildings along Markham St are being restored after community consultation and I'm not sure if this building is one of the ones being retained. This pic goes through from the front on Bathurst St and out through what had been an addition on the back. A friend of mine had a longtime studio on the second floor here so it is sad to see this.

The older I get the less I like change. But I don't think that's due to age. It's due to experience. People making changes are full of promises - it's gonna be great! Just wait. It will be like nothing you've ever seen before. And most of the time those promises are full of holes. Change is necessary and a fundamental component of our lives, but that doesn't mean we have to go looking for it. Sheesh! In this case, who gives a rat's ass if a few people make millions of dollars putting up two ungodly towers which will increase the area's density and make life more difficult for the rest of you guys in Toronto?

ReplyDeleteDemolition of any kind makes me sad, esp if the building being destroyed has some historic significance.
ReplyDeleteI like the term 'public consultation' Pat ☺ thank heavens for public opinion, it has saved many a gorgeous old building. Sad to see places that hold memories knocked down like this.
