Along The Danforth

A couple of weeks ago I ventured to the east side of Toronto from my usual west side and headed out along Danforth Ave (aka the Danforth). This area is known as Greektown and is full of Greek restaurants, bakeries and businesses and is the centre for our huge Greek population in the city. The Danforth becomes Bloor St after you head west and cross over the Don River & Don Valley. These two stores show what is a fairly common sight in older parts of the city where years ago stores were added onto the front of homes, probably in the front gardens. It was a bit above freezing so all of the fruits & veggies were out on display.

    All those fruits and vegetables look so colorful behind that wall of snow. I remember there was a huge Greek population in Chicago too when I worked there and some pretty fine Greek Restaurants.

    I never made it there when I lived in Toronto...Greek is my favorite!

    I love Greek food, in fact my daughter and I are excited to be going to Greece this summer! I love those old houses behind the stores.

    Looks so invitingly colourful Pat. I did smile when you said it was just above freezing so everything was out on display.. if it was just above freezing here Perthites would be in shock! It's what you're used to hey 😊

    Before the subway took over I used to ride the streetcar along Danforth. I was always interesting looking out the window.

    I love your photos of good, ol' TO!
    So many repurposed old churches these days. A part of history. We have one for sale, rural, with a manse attached, and a wing built to attach them. It looks so sad without an owner.
