The Hillcrest yard of the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and recently held an open house. This old Peter Witt streetcar was one of the stars of the show. It was in operation from 1923 until 1965 when it was used the last time in active duty for a retirement ceremony. As part of the open house you could take a 5 minute ride in this streetcar around a loop in the yards which of course I did.

Great car to see.
Just my kind of thing - I just remember seeing the old trolley-buses which operated in London in the late 1950s.
Looks great.
Oh wow, that must have been fun. The city I grew up in had streetcars like this but by the time I was was old enough to remember things, the street cars were all gone.
Very cool! Do you have pics from the inside, too?
Quite a sight.
What a beauty.
That's a really nice well kept tram (as we call them here)
..I remember visiting Toronto in the late '50s to see an aunt and rode a similar streetcar.
TO did a good thing when it kept its streetcars. We were in Montreal in the ate 50s and early 60s then MO switched over completely. It seemed like TO was behind the times, but maybe they were ahead.
What great fun. I must check if heritage vehicles are allowed out onto the streets at times.
Wonderful looking street car. Chicago was still running street cars like this in my youth, but they were replaced by buses by 1960s.
Lucky you!
