I was wandering around the U of Toronto campus and stopped for a pic of one of my favourite things. This round building, the Croft Chapter House, is a part of the University College building which was built in 1859. Originally this was the chemistry lab of the college and one wonders if it was set off to one end as a safety measure. It hasn't been a chem lab for many years and had been used for offices for a long time until recently when it was renovated and opened as an arts conference centre. I must see if I can get inside for a look.
The round building is cool! I am glad it has a new use.
ReplyDeleteTake care and enjoy these last few days of 2024.
I wish you all the best in 2025, Happy New Year!
Fruitful wandering, I would say.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great looking old building. I'd like to see inside too!
ReplyDeleteNow that's an interesting looking building.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting and cool building. I like the three windows at the top.
ReplyDeleteRound buildings are rare. Around here round barns would built because they withstand tornados better than rectangular barns. I doubt that was the reason for this round building.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting building and I hope you will share interior photos.
ReplyDeleteThat's rather old and I was thinking as you were about safety, which could also be a reason for it being round.
ReplyDeleteFine architecture.
ReplyDeleteLooks indeed if it is build to resist anything that might happen including earth shakes inside or out.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building.
ReplyDeleteI dig that!
ReplyDeletePlease, pics from inside!
