The CDP theme for April is triangles and the most famous triangle in Toronto is probably the FlatIron Building at the intersection of Church, Front & Wellington Streets. It was designed by architect Derek Besant and constructed in 1892 for the Godderham & Worts distillers to be used as their office which they did until 1952. It continues to be used for various offices although the bottom floor which is slightly below grade is a pub.

ReplyDeleteI always liked Toronto's "flatiron" building. :)
ReplyDeleteI think these triangular buildings are just so distinctive that they almost define an area of a city. I hope they are long preserved. (Not sure I'd want to have to escape using those stairs, though!)
ReplyDeleteThat's the second flatiron building I've seen today and it's a perfect choice for the theme.
ReplyDeleteA true landmark building in TO!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of a beautiful looking building.
ReplyDeleteI like how you combined the two buildings!!!
ReplyDeleteHow contrasting! Great composition, love it!
ReplyDeleteA longtime icon of Toronto.

ReplyDeleteRed Pat! Perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteThat building is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for Theme Day!
ReplyDeleteEven if this wonderful building wasn't ablaze in triangles, this image would be a triumph. I love seeing the vintage red brick building in the midst of the glass walled modern buildings. What a setting.
ReplyDeleteAwesome building. You found some nice triangles.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with Jack Pat, this has to be one of the most photogenic buildings I've seen. The blue turrets are the icing in the cake.. would they be verdigrised metal?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous study in contrasts. For me, it is the old architecture of the flatiron building with its beautifully appointed trim and roof.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Magnificent find, a beautiful architecture, love the whole concept and its back view is superb! Did not know the existence of another building with the same name as the New Yorker!
