I passed by this wonderfully painted utility box and did a fast U-turn to get a pic. The city has been hiring artists to paint these boxes in an effort to discourage graffiti and since most of the artists involved have deep roots in the graffiti world, their work is being left untouched. I think this one by artist Peru 143 is one of the best I've seen. He says on his site that his latest work is "a celebration of the feeling of home". It works for me!

I wish they would do this in Pickering.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a fantastic idea Pat.. this one is perfect in it's urban location.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that there should be honor among graffiti artists.
ReplyDeleteThis really is a great one. It works for me too.
ReplyDeleteLove this one Pat.
ReplyDeleteVery cheery looking!
ReplyDeletereally, really like it!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. More cities need to take on this idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! I wish they would do that here. It really spruces it up and I'm glad the graffiti taggers are leaving it alone!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great idea. I have suggested it to local politicians but it looks like I will have to do it again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to support the artists and make those boxes look nice! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe have those here in the valley as well. It is certainly a great idea. Great capture!
ReplyDeleteSeen a lot of these around lately. I like this one.
ReplyDeleteSuper! Ours are pretty but way too classical, I like this a lot!
ReplyDeleteso interesting.
ReplyDeleteso interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat's very classy: graffiti-like but clearly not graffiti.
ReplyDeleteThat's the second time today I've seen that motif. We see the odd utility box here painted in a different design, but this is more artistic.
ReplyDeleteBetter than just a plain gray box.
ReplyDeleteHey! We did the same thing today! As you know, I am not fond of graffiti, but this kind of work is authorized and juried, and takes pretty utilitarian gray boxes and turns them into something. I like this trend a lot.
ReplyDeleteThat really POPS and what a good idea!

This is really a great one, I like it !
ReplyDeleteI love painted utility boxes. The bright colors here are perfect!
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Very original and colorful;))
ReplyDeleteI can see why you made the u-turn. this is a growing trend and you can see why. One could sell this idea to cities in the savings to recovering tagging alone. Bravo. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I hope it'll weather our crazy cold winters and hot summers.
ReplyDeleteSo cool!
ReplyDeleteHaha, this is nice!
