There seem to more and more of these Downy Woodpeckers in the city especially this winter since it hasn't been very cold yet. I hear them in the trees even in the centre of town and they are very frequent visitors to any suet feeders that are about. This girl was busy looking for insects on a fairly warm day last week so it was hard to catch her being still and I shot the pic through a window so it is a bit fuzzy. They are quite nice birds and will sit really close to your head while you fill a feeder for them - just a wee bit impatient.

I bet these birds are fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy seeing woodpeckers at work, unless they are drilling into my house.
ReplyDeleteCount yourself lucky. I have only seen one this winter.
ReplyDeleteVery cute. We had a red-headed woodpecker working on a palm tree just outside our window in a condo in Ft. Lauderdale. He was loud and drove us nuts. Then we moved north to Ocala. We showed him! :)
ReplyDeleteI have just realized that I have never seen a real woodpecker...
ReplyDeleteWoodpeckers do always seem to be in a hurry though this one must have paused for his photo to be taken!
ReplyDeleteHe did not fall, it is well attached :))
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana.
Besos.
They certainly are pretty, and this one proves it.
ReplyDeleteHow cute !
ReplyDeleteMust be a lot of insects about.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever managed to shoot one (photographically speaking of course)! Cool!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that woodpeckers are more common these days. I see some down here in Florida, and two years ago I had to have some shingles on my Connecticut house repaired because woodpeckers were pecking holes through them.
ReplyDeleteit is very difficult to take photo of woodpecker
ReplyDeletewe keep them here all year. i like them. :)

ReplyDeleteCute little guy! Lucky you caught him. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are friendly and smart birds, they and watch for us to come back with the feeder when we take it down to refill it.
