A Fishy Tale
Last week I went down to the Humber River to see if I could see any of the salmon run which involves a lot of high flying by these big fish as they attempt to pass the small dams along the river. When they approach each dam they seem to circle around and then take a run at the small waterfall sections and try to hit the top edge and then swim upstream to the next dam and continue the journey up to their spawning grounds. You will have to take my word for it that there is a salmon visible in this pic - that dark streak in the lower right of the waterfall is a fish just starting to jump. I found out that it takes a lot of time to catch a pic of one in mid air and a fast finger on the camera. I wasn't successful!
It's hard to catch fish tails!
ReplyDeleteSalmon or not this is truly a lovely spot!
ReplyDeleteYou need to set it to continuous shutter , easy on a DSLR. I can just make out some colour which I thought was the fish
ReplyDeleteI commend you for trying! I know exactly what you mean about the number of tries it takes without success. I think I see an egret or a heron in the background of this photo. He was probably looking for the salmon too.
ReplyDeletethat would be so cool to witness!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a treat to see them, let alone capture them on camera. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so hard to capture. You'll get one eventually. Myself, I don't think I have enough patience, on second thought, I am very impatient. :)
ReplyDeleteI believe you!
ReplyDeleteNice try! You'd almost have to do continuous shooting to catch one of them jumping. Kinda like trying to catch a lightning strike!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely spot with the water flowing over the dam.
ReplyDeleteRemarkable at how determined they are.
ReplyDeleteCamera shy fish. :-)
ReplyDeleteit's amazing what they go thru...
ReplyDeleteI can appreciate who difficult they are to photo, and enjoy your fine shot here!
ReplyDeleteI see that jumping fish there Pat 😊 It would be a little like birding, too much patience required 😀
ReplyDeleteI believe you, RedPat. I always believe you.
ReplyDeleteMe encanta Pat... Es una foto preciosa!!!
