I've seen bits of this sign for years but on the other side of that new fence there are railway tracks and there were lines of scrub and bushes growing all along so you couldn't see the whole thing. Just recently work has been done that included the new fence, gravel work and the cutting down of the vegetation so the sign is now visible. Beatty Electric Washers had a factory in Fergus Ontario and I think this could have been the back wall of an office.
This was the location just several weeks ago of a derailment that fortunately caused no damage to any of the buildings around the tracks and caused no dangerous substances to leak. This is the middle of the city so it could have been horrendous.

ReplyDeleteLove ghost signs, and this is a good one. Sharp eyes.
ReplyDeleteKeeping the Ghost Signs alive. Way to go Pat.
ReplyDeleteGhost signs are always intriguing, nice find, Pat !
ReplyDeleteI wonder what caused the derailment. That is such a scary thought in the middle of the city. I love the sign and the history that goes with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that derailment was as safe as it seemed. I've seen some of those ghost signs around Arizona too.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't bear thinking about derailments...The ghost sign is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteNice! Ghost sign are always a nice surprise when they are finally unveiled. Glad the derailment didn't cause any major problems.

ReplyDeleteI like those old washed aways advertisements from the past. Great it is visible now again at last.
ReplyDeleteThe next time I'm in Fergus I'll have to look for the echoes of the company there.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a sign I pass frequently on my bike advertising "brand new" apartments. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood ghost sign
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is Warren Beatty's ghost sign. Oh wait, I think he's still with us. :)
ReplyDeletestill legible!
ReplyDeleteNice to see this old lettering exposed!
ReplyDeleteHi RedPat, you asked about the car from which I took the shot of the Detour sign. That is my wife's British roadster. It is a 1956 MGA which has a 1600 cc motor connected to a four speed manual transmission. The motor produces all of 68 horsepower, but the car is light so the manufacturer back in 1956 said it would achieve a true 100 miles per hour. I would not know about that as I have only had it up to about 75 mph, and was only at that speed briefly.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many ghost signs are hidden by vegetation Pat, this was a super disclosure! Dreadful about the derailment but so good that noone was seriously hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you captured quite the scene and the ghost sign is great too!
ReplyDeleteUnique fence find and photo ~ thanks!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a special weekend ~ ^_^

ReplyDeleteHow neat that the Ghost sign is now visable behind that fence and that no horrible damage was done from the derailment.
