I took this shot of one of our streetcars last Sunday morning just after it had picked up a load of people who had come out of the church down the street. It was a lovely September morning.
A good street car system is a major asset to any city. Most U.S. cities lost their light rail systems in the 1950s, but many are now trying to rebuild them. Light rail usually leads to major urban redevelopment.
There's lots of space in these ones. They can hold 70 seated plus 181 standing for a total of 251.

ReplyDeleteIn the UK they did away with most of the trams back in the 1960s, and they've been replacing them with something similar almost ever since.
