Just down the street from Reggae lane I spotted this old bell out front of a fire hall. It turns out that it was from 1920 and had been installed in an old fire hall when this area was part of York Township before it became part of the city of Toronto.
Good that it's been held onto.
ReplyDeleteYour photo rings my chimes, and that is no alarm bell. Our undergraduate school had a bell like this which was rung any time a school sports team won a game.
ReplyDeleteIndeed only a bell used by firemen could be red.
ReplyDeleteI like that it is bright red!
ReplyDeleteA nice big red bell. I wonder if anyone tries to ring it.
ReplyDeleteHistory.
ReplyDeleteAn unusual sight. I wonder if it still has its clapper inside or if that would make it too tempting to passers-by to ring.
ReplyDeleteIt is a classic
ReplyDeleteMy small town has a bell much like this. A treasure for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find!
ReplyDeleteI love finding pieces of history like that! Cool!
ReplyDeleteI have the same question. Can you ring it?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a ship's bell that a friend's mother used to tell him it was time to come home for supper. :-)
