Mocking The Cold

On a cold early morning this week I spotted this very puffed-up Mockingbird sitting atop the fence around a local garden centre. I always think of them as sleek birds but obviously he was using every feather he had to keep warm and he also wasn't really skewered to the fence. He does look as if he has a few complaints though the way he is glaring at the camera!
Enlarge to see his wee face better.

  1. This is wonderful, Pat! I did embiggen the picture and it really does look like that fence wire is going right up into its "stomach." And it doesn't look all that happy at a certain photographer. Cute shot!

  2. I love it. He does not look like a happy camper on that uncomfortable fence. But I wish I could fluff up my feathers to keep warm on an unexpectedly chilly spring day.

  3. Always amazes me how birds manage to perch on fences like this. Hope Mr Cold and Grumpy is singing in spring sunshine soon.
