Old Time Diner

I finally went to the Shanghai Cowgirl for some food and certainly wasn't disappointed by the interior which looks like it has been unchanged since the 50s. I had shown you their exterior & sign here in April and wanted to check out the menu and can report that I wasn't thrilled - heavy on the greasy stuff which I guess was typical for the times. Look at those great stools though!

  2. Too bad about the food, RedPat, but the environment is spectacular. Time for a new chef.

  3. Well really Red, '50's food was heavy on the grease!! :)

Besides, a greasy burger now and then is good for the soul.

  4. It wouldn't be a 50s diner without the milkshake machine either. :-) I honestly cannot recall the last time I had a milkshake. Probably one those McD's things about 25 years ago.

  5. Haha -- it's a wonder we survived on all that grease! I've had the same experience trying Diner food again (guess you can't go home again ;>)!) But I have to say the diners we tried weren't as good looking as yours.

  6. The stools look a bit precarious to me, but then I can barely sit in a chair anymore! :-)

Yeah, I think you could figure the food would be a little greasy. How do you think we were able to keep those ducktails in our hair back in the day?

  7. Oh, yeah, cheeseburgers and fries, but a great vibe. Good work, Pat.

  9. Now that is a place with atmosphere! Don't you think it's interesting how many new restaurants are serving good old fashioned comfort food in this day and age of healthy living? There are some really fun new places here but, it's really hard to find something on the menu that is good for you.

  10. Be good to sit on one of those stools and watch the comings and goings, perhaps with a glass of water?!

  11. Love the retro stools Pat, I had a pair just like those until a short while ago, I kind of wish I'd kept them now! Were there ANY healthy options on the menu?

  14. Very cool! There is a typical American diner at Cascais, which opened not long ago, and I went there the other night but it was so noisy that I didn't stay and took no pictures.

  15. Too bad about the grease! Maybe this isn't my sort of place after all.
