Birds On A Wire

I often see a lot of birds sitting on this particular run of wires and they always seem to be spaced out quite evenly like this. I guess birds have the same sense of personal space as humans!

  1. Maybe they are more civilized than us. ;-)

  2. I wonder if they're wired to sing at that particular spot?

  4. I've noticed that before too. Along I-5 there are always hawks on the wires and they are perfectly evenly spaced too...but a lot further apart than the little guys (I suppose it's a hunting territory for them), but it must just be a sense of space for the smaller ones..

  6. there are some wires that the birds seem particularly attracted to and I often wonder why.

  7. Some kind of law of diminishing attraction going on here, I think. Very few on the second wire, and the third wire had three birds but one is flying away.
Interesting topic for someone's thesis in Electrical Engineering.

  8. Starlings - they flock together in winter, though from your pic they still like their own space.

  10. They must need a certain space in order to fly off.

  11. I hate it when someone stands just a bit too close when we talk. Unless she is pretty.

  17. I imagine it's a good high perch in the heart of their territory... and they do tend to be very social animals.
