Vintage Citroen

We don't see very many Citroens here so they get a lot of attention when you do see them, especially such a vintage one as this. I know little about them so can't even hazard a guess as to this one's age. Isn't it cool though?

  1. Oihh.. it's lovely.
We had about 1971 such just like this, and it was already old. We had a total 4 pieces of 2CV. Do not see them very often anymore either here.

  2. Look like dusbins on wheels. Only two cylinders and 600cc. Seats like deckchairs they stopped making them in 1990.

  6. Nice find. These are cool looking little cars although I do not think I would want one. But I admire those who do like them to own.

  12. This is a Citroen 2CV. Citroen made them from 1948-1990 and manufactured 8.8 million of them with various body styles and models. Started off with a 9 hp four stroke motor but later models had 36 hp. This one is likely from the late 1950s or 1960s. They were a quirky car designed to drive French farmers on dirt roads. Interesting looking. Not many of them around any more.

  13. I was going to guess 1960-something, and judging by some of your more informed replies, I'd have been in the right decade.
    Nifty old car. Great shot.

  14. Looks in pretty good shape. I've never driven or even ridden in one so I can't testify as to their qualities, but it was a popular car from what I've heard.

Thank you for writing...we're doing fine; just needed to take a break and do other things. Will probably be back to some extent after the first of the year.

Got to say, I do miss your blog, too, and many other blogs by people who I consider friends!

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!

  15. These look pretty neat -but are not really fun (or safe!) to drive.

  17. I said to myself "I hope Taken for Granted follows RedPat . . . he will know." That man is a walking encyclopedia for all things mechanical.

  18. Iconic - occasionally see them on fire at the side of the motorway..! Marginally better than a Trabbie?

  19. I'm not a car-person, but for Citroens, I make an exception. In the 80's, they were all over LA. I believe there was one model that allowed you to raise the car frame for a smoother ride.

  21. This is what we used to call "a student Jaguar"....
I saw one out on the motorway a few days back.

  22. Very cool Pat. We have quite a few driving around in Perth and every time I see one I think how nice it would be to drive.. only not now in 36C because I bet they don't have air conditioning :)
