Home

I passed by this wonderfully painted utility box and did a fast U-turn to get a pic. The city has been hiring artists to paint these boxes in an effort to discourage graffiti and since most of the artists involved have deep roots in the graffiti world, their work is being left untouched. I think this one by artist Peru 143 is one of the best I've seen. He says on his site that his latest work is "a celebration of the feeling of home". It works for me!

  6. This is great. More cities need to take on this idea.

  7. What a wonderful idea! I wish they would do that here. It really spruces it up and I'm glad the graffiti taggers are leaving it alone!

  8. It is a great idea. I have suggested it to local politicians but it looks like I will have to do it again.

  13. That's very classy: graffiti-like but clearly not graffiti.

  14. That's the second time today I've seen that motif. We see the odd utility box here painted in a different design, but this is more artistic.

  15. Better than just a plain gray box.

  16. Hey! We did the same thing today! As you know, I am not fond of graffiti, but this kind of work is authorized and juried, and takes pretty utilitarian gray boxes and turns them into something. I like this trend a lot.

  21. I can see why you made the u-turn. this is a growing trend and you can see why. One could sell this idea to cities in the savings to recovering tagging alone. Bravo. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
