Slow Down

In mid july a 7 year old girl was hit and killed by a van as she crossed the road from a playground to go home. Since then someone has started to produce these signs and they are springing up all across the city. We can only hope that they are working to remind people to watch out for the little ones.

  1. A good message for most people, whether they drive or not.

  2. A great idea and let's hope it works. The trouble with signs, though, is that they become familiar and have a limited shelf-life. Also a view today is that many signs are just ignored because there are too many for us to take on board.

  3. So sad to hear about the child getting killed. I have a similar sign on my blog today warning aggressive drivers to slow down.

  4. That is sad. A shame that a tragedy must take place before measures to curb such events are implemented.

  6. I think drivers are worse than ever. Too many are taking dangerous chances! Where are we rushing to...and why?

  10. I think people start blocking out the regular signs the city puts up to watch for children, seniors, etc. This one is much more noticeable and artistic.

  11. Sad reason for it but it's a memorable sign. Round here we have a 20mph limit in our residential streets - but I'm not sure many people take any notice.

  12. Just like the sign many people see right through kids.

  13. It is an eye-catching sign but I wonder if a driver might actually be so distracted by the sign that they take their eyes off the road.

  14. What a tragic reason to start this sign campaign. Hope drivers pay attention.

  15. I have never seen this type in Europe. But it is definitely a wise decision.

  16. This sign certainly stands out more than the standard children at play motif.

  17. If this sign helps, it will be well worth the effort.

  18. Connects on a gut level deeper than word or warning. Good work!

  20. Hope they work Pat. We have a very strict 40km speed limit by school crossings during school start and finish times, works really well.

  23. Drivers with more care and more attention. I got hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing in July, and I still have pain in the side :((
