Parkdale Bike Stands 12
The snow gives you the hint that I took this pic in February and judging by the rust and lack of seat on this bike we can assume that this is one of the many abandoned bikes around town in winter. This bike stand seems to be an abstract pattern to me - any ideas out there - maybe a bit birdlike? I still like it and it is a vast improvement on the boring institutional-looking stands you find in most areas!
Sometimes people take the seat with them when they lock a bike to a bike stand, thinking a thief may find a seat-less bike less attractive. This one has an excellent lock attached to the stand. Looks like a decent bike in spite of the rust.
ReplyDeleteNice curvy design, lots of points to attach a bike lock, multi-patterned lollipop maybe?
ReplyDeletesuper cool! =) I was about to say...is this in April?lol
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. I agree, no matter the interpretation, these are so much nicer than standard street furniture. I was wondering if it wasn't a play on the derailer/gear sprockets of a bicycle.
ReplyDeleteI love the bike stands you have shown us, and you have mentioned the abandoned bikes. Perhaps it is an extension of the stand and a continuing piece of art.
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteThe figure on the left makes me think of a seahorse :)
I can't believe how many different bike stands you have. Wow. I like that they provoke you to think a bit.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks like a yin-yang symbol to me.
The first thing that came to my mind was a fish. But I'm not so sure anymore... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if it might be a tribal symbol of some kind. I like it.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting design.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first looked at it thought it was a bike with three wheels! :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember winters in Ontario that would find an abandoned bike up to it's crossbar in a snowbank in February!
ReplyDeleteYup! Birdman could hang his bike on this one.
ReplyDeleteWell, if we had bike stands like this, the photo could have been taken in Portugal now because it's snowing up north, can you believe it?
ReplyDeleteIt does look a little bird like!
ReplyDeleteIntriguing Pat, it almost looks like an interpretation of a bicycle chain to me, I love the stand outside the bookshop in the last post, how appropriate..
ReplyDeleteIt looks that this stand has especially designed for locking the bikes.
