Deco Entrance On Adelade St
I went on a walking tour with Heritage Toronto earlier in the summer which took us around to the Art Deco Towers of Bay Street (the financial district of Toronto). Somehow I never got around to posting any pics. This is the wonderful entrance to the Concourse Building on Adelaide St W - probably my favourite on the tour. It was built in 1928 and designed by architects Baldwin & Greene but its future has been up in the air for more than the last decades since the property was bought by developers who intended to tear it down. The world-wide economic downturn stopped that and the newest plans seem to involve keeping the structure & building a 40 storey tower behind the 16 storey Concourse. We will see what happens! I'll do a close-up of the murals tomorrow.

What a gorgeous entrance. It would be a shame to tear this down.
Amazing height on this spectacular entrance.
That really is very nice. It's sad when they tear down such wonderful pieces of art.
Gorgeous - how could anyone even think of destroying something like this?
They want to tear this down? Are they crazy! This is fantastic! What would they replace it with, steel and glass? Yikes!
What a 'grand entrance'. Let's hope it survives the developers.
I love all the art deco details downtown. Can't wait to see your murals. I bet it was an interesting walk too!
Well thank heaven for economic intervention. It would be a shame to loose a beauty like that. Hard to believe that buildings of that character could be torn down without a lot of outcry. Will look forward to learning about the mosaic.
Nooooooo! they can't knock it down Pat, it's way too special. This would make a spectacularly grand entrance to a 40 storey building.
Very grand, indeed, Pat.
