Puffy Sky
I took this shot a couple of weeks ago after a snow storm and really liked the puffy clouds behind Casa Loma. The snow is all gone now!

Rocket Man
I discovered this guy in a corner along a west-end laneway. He's a bit weather beaten but his charm still comes through don't you think?

Curvy Room
This is the back of the George H Locke Memorial Branch of the Toronto Public Library located at Yonge St & Lawrence Ave. I will have to get a pic of the front one day when traffic is sparse but this back part is actually nicer with the big windows and the curved wall. George Locke was the chief librarian for the city from 1908 to 1937 and when this was built after the war in 1949 the decision was made to name it after him.

House Finch & Friend
This little House Finch was a first for me as he sat eating along with a sweet Chickadee on one of the feeders at the Vet's Centre at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. House Finchs were introduced to eastern North America in the 1940s around New York City and have now spread with the first ones appearing in Ontario around 1978. They are now quite common here. Cute isn't he?

More Green Doors
I'm not sure if it is just me but I would want to match those shutters more to the colour of the doors. This is another of the row of dwellings along Lawrence Ave in the Lawrence Park neighbourhood like the one I showed you yesterday. Not sure what you would call this style.

Green Doors
I showed you a building similar to this in January (HERE) and mentioned that there was a row of these buildings of a same scale but each a different design. Well I went back and took pics of them all and will show you a couple today & tomorrow and the others later. This one has a bit of a Tudor style to it which is suitable to this Lawrence Park neighbourhood. More green doors tomorrow.

Lest We Forget
This is one of the buses belonging to the Veteran's Centre at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and it is used to transport the vets around town to various events and sights. Most of the vets in the centre are from WWII so the average age is around 93 years old and since many of them use wheelchairs to get around this bus is equipped with special equipment for loading them.

Floral Bike Ring
This bike ring from the series on Bloor St designed by the students at Bloor Collegiate has the look of a flower to me or it could be the sun. I like it either way!

A Birdo Creature
I recently spotted a new Birdo mural. I can never figure out what the creatures he paints are meant to be but it is always fun to see one. And the colour is great to see in the middle of winter!

Forbidden
I took this pic a while ago in the lobby of a building along Queen St W just before the security guard told me that photography was forbidden in the building. So I didn't get the name of the artist but I do like the work.

Hangers for Two, Please
This looks like two pics put together but it is actually two bird feeders hanging off the same post with dual hangers. There is very little you can do to stop squirrels from getting at bird feeders and from the looks of these grey squirrels they have been eating a lot!

Osgoode Side View
This is a side view of yesterday's Osgoode Hall and it gives you an idea of the various additions that have occurred over the years. I just like to see the clock tower from Old City Hall peeking over the top surrounded by the newer buildings along Queen St W.

Osgoode Hall Through The Trees
In a city with as many trees as we have it is often impossible to get shots of buildings when the leaves are out so it is fun to get some winter shots. This view of Osgoode Hall on Queen St is totally hidden all summer but looks rather nice now with City Hall peeking over the top at us. Osgoode Hall houses the Law Society of Upper Canada as well as various courts and legal libraries and construction began in 1829 with many additions through the years. I showed a pic of the original section back in 2013 (HERE).

Vintage Records
I spotted this record store on Bloor St W in the same area as the bicycle rings I have been showing you. They have been open for almost 2 years and seem to have a good variety of vinyl & CDs judging from the on-line info I found. I didn't have time to wander in so will have to go back another day.

Spilled Coffee
Yet another of the bike rings from Bloor St W which were designed by the students at Bloor Collegiate. At first this looked abstract to me until I realized that it seems to be an open book with coffee being spilled onto it. Not a fun thing to happen!

The Photographer
Up above the stores at Bloor St & Bathurst I spotted this intrepid photographer keeping a record of the neighbourhood. I'm not sure how long this one has been here since I usually walk on the other side of the street. It pays to break you habits sometimes!

I'll Show You How
The grey squirrel from yesterday's post scurried up the pole and jumped onto the ring with no trouble and after that this black one had no trouble at all. I think she may have been the matriarch of the local squirrels because eventually there were about 6 of them around and when she wanted to get a peanut they all backed off and let her get one!

Peanut Ring
One way to keep the squirrels away from the bird feeders is to give them their own ring of treats in the form of peanuts in the shell. They just have to reach trough the loops of wire and out pops a peanut. This black squirrel was having a bit of trouble at first getting over to the ring as the grey buddy on the ground watched on. I'll show you the sequel tomorrow!

South Facing Patio
This is the patio coming out from the food court at the Humber River Hospital. Since it faces south into the sun even on a winter day that wasn't too cold it would be a nice place to sit out. The hospital has only been open for just over a year so the trees and plants will provide a lot of shade as they grow larger.

Conservation
When a new engineering building was being built at U of Toronto (U of T) an older building on the site along St George St was retained, refurbished and incorporated into the complex. This was originally built as a residence in 1878 and has heritage protection partly because of the wonderful patterning in the brickwork. I'll have to go back for a closeup one day.

Conversion
I passed by this spot and just happened to notice the unusual name of the place so went back for a pic. This building used to house the Oakwood Hardware store and you can still see the wonderful old signs for Lowe Brothers paints at the top of the window. Well now it is a gastropub that has excellent reviews and the pics of the interior look great so I'm thinking a visit is in order!

B Is For Bloor
This is another of the bike rings that were recently installed along Bloor St between Dufferin St & Lansdowne Ave. Since they were designed by students from Bloor Collegiate the B in this ring could stand for the street or the school or maybe both.

At Sea In The Snow
A new espresso bar opened recently on Bathursr St and I just noticed that they have a new mural that has been done. It is good to see that all of the creatures on the boat are bundled up against the cold since the snow was flying the afternoon I went by. The work looks familiar but I don't know the artist's name.

Tiny
I spotted this original Mini a week ago and was so surprised to see how small it was compared to the new ones. This one must be from England since it has the steering wheel on the right side. And even though it is small there was a baby seat in the back so it is a family car!

Ducks On Ice
I went to visit the duck pond at James Gardens a couple of weeks ago and there many ducks there as you can see and I guess their little down coats keep them warm but what keeps the feet warm I don't know!

Through The Trees
This shot was taken while walking along a laneway north of Queen St W. I just liked the view through the trees of Victory atop a pedestal on University Ave and the clock on Old City Hall that is a block away at Bay St with a new office tower as their background.

February Theme Day: Loving Life
The February theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is "Loving Life" and when I spotted this sign in the window of a button store I thought it was perfect for the theme. We would all be happy if we did as it says.
