i remember when dutch elm disease tore thru wisconsin when i was a kid. so sad...

As you say a beautiful sight, and one that is very rare indeed in the UK also. I cannot recall seeing an Elm this size for many years.
The disease was terrible. Elm trees were so prolific and so beautiful. Like you, I hope this one stays healthy!
One hopes it survives the construction, but these days it seems developers could care less about such things.
Elm sightings are very rare. I can't think of a single one around here. I sure hope that Toronto has some kind of building codes that require that the developer preserve this elm.
No nightmares on that street I hope! :-)
Oh I hope i does survive Pat, too many wonderful old trees get lost to progress.
It is sad that so many around the world are disappearing, so nice to see this gorgeous one still standing.
Good to see a healthy elm still lives in Toronto!
That's a beautiful tree. It seems we might lose more species to similar diseases. So sad.
