A Downtown Elm Tree

I was so pleased to spot this healthy elm tree growing just off Queen St W, since they have become a rare sight these days. Streets that were once lined with these gorgeous trees have been changed forever since Dutch Elm Disease hit North America. This one is right beside the presentation centre for yet another condo, so we can only hope that it survives the construction.

As you say a beautiful sight, and one that is very rare indeed in the UK also. I cannot recall seeing an Elm this size for many years.

The disease was terrible. Elm trees were so prolific and so beautiful. Like you, I hope this one stays healthy!

One hopes it survives the construction, but these days it seems developers could care less about such things.

Elm sightings are very rare. I can't think of a single one around here. I sure hope that Toronto has some kind of building codes that require that the developer preserve this elm.

It is sad that so many around the world are disappearing, so nice to see this gorgeous one still standing.

Good to see a healthy elm still lives in Toronto!

That's a beautiful tree. It seems we might lose more species to similar diseases. So sad.
